Case study – Vacuuming peat dust and organic compounds
Safely vacuum up even the finest dustIn pharmaceutical, cosmetic, and chemical manufacturing, peat and other organic materials are often used during various production phases. When processed into a fine powder, peat becomes potentially explosive if not managed correctly. This case focuses on the challenge of safely removing fine peat dust spread across three different floors of a pharmaceutical facility. The objective was to implement a continuous vacuum solution that would prevent cross-contamination, protect worker safety, and ensure uninterrupted production processes.
Customer’s need
During the production of activated carbon in a pharmaceutical environment, large quantities of fine, volatile peat dust are released into the air. This dust not only accumulates quickly but also presents a significant explosion risk if not properly controlled. To safeguard personnel, protect equipment, and maintain production integrity, it is essential to extract these airborne residues swiftly and in a completely safe manner.
Depureco’s customized vacuum solution
Depureco developed a tailor-made industrial vacuum solution featuring 12 suction inlets, durable aluminum piping, and a high-efficiency filtering pre-separator. This system is engineered to handle large volumes of fine and volatile peat dust, ensuring safe collection and disposal while providing:
- Simultaneous dust extraction from different levels of the facility;
- Extended suction coverage for the entire facility
- Efficient Dust Collection with Big Bag Discharge

The plant

Suction points
Each suction inlet is fitted with electro-pneumatic valves that enable precise control over airflow and system activation.
- automatically start the system when the suction point is opened;
- automatically shut down the system approximately 20 seconds after closing.
The system is engineered to support simultaneous operation by two users, ensuring efficiency and uninterrupted workflow.

Suction of peat and organic compounds
Features

Powerful side channel blower

Electrical panel with specific functions for the system

High-efficiency class M cartridges

Conveyed discharge system

Integrated safety systems
The suction system includes integrated safety devices designed to maintain continuous performance while protecting the production environment and workers’ health.
An ATEX-certified compartmentalisation valve is built into the piping system to block the backflow of vacuumed peat dust and stop the spread of explosions throughout the plant infrastructure.
